What to know about wearing stones?Updated 4 months ago

Gemstones have varying degrees of hardness and need to be cared for properly. Many coloured gemstones are susceptible to discolouration and fading when excessively exposed to natural elements such as sun, salt water, perspiration, and chemical irritants like chlorine, cosmetics, and lotions.

OPALS

Opals are sensitive to sudden temperature changes and water; therefore, we recommend removing your pieces while washing your hands or taking a shower. When you’re not wearing your opal jewelry, we recommend storing your pieces in a sealed plastic bag to protect them from humidity.

PEARLS

To care for your pearls, gently wipe them with a soft, microfibre cloth after each use. If needed, use warm soapy water (pure soap only) to remove makeup, lotion or perspiration, ensuring they are completely dry. Avoid wearing pearls in water (salt or freshwater) as it can damage the silk thread, and prolonged exposure to heat or sweat may weaken the setting and diminish the pearls’ lustre over time.

MOONSTONE

Gemstones like moonstone have varying degrees of hardness and can be more susceptible to scratches, chipping, and surface wear. To maintain their iridescence and longevity, avoid exposing moonstone to harsh chemicals, excessive moisture, or physical impact. We recommend removing moonstone jewelry before swimming, showering, or engaging in activities where it may be bumped or scratched, and storing pieces separately to prevent contact with harder stones.

JADE

Jade is a durable stone but can crack if dropped or struck against hard surfaces. Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, chlorine, perfumes, lotions, and excessive moisture.

We recommend removing jade jewelry before swimming, showering, or exercising. Store pieces separately in a soft pouch to prevent scratching, and avoid prolonged direct sunlight, as some treated stones may fade over time.

AMETHYST

Amethyst can fade with prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or high heat. To preserve its rich colour, avoid leaving pieces in direct sun for extended periods and store in a cool, dry place when not in use.

TURQUOISE

Turquoise is porous and can absorb oils, lotions, and chemicals, which may alter its colour over time. Avoid exposure to water, perfumes, and cosmetics. Wipe with a soft cloth after wear and store in a dry environment.

EMERALDS

Emeralds are brittle, so they should be handled with extra care. To keep your emerald jewelry looking its best, be mindful of how you wear it. Any physically challenging activity could impact your jewelry.
