How do I care for my Jewelry?Updated 7 days ago
Caring for your LAJ Jewelry
It’s important to ensure your Leah Alexandra Jewelry pieces are properly cared for so they can last a lifetime. We are confident in the quality of our jewelry, which is why all pieces come with a one-year warranty for damage caused by a manufacturing defect for our regular collections.
Our one-year warranty covers the repair or replacement of any jewelry piece that our team determines has a manufacturing defect. Please note that this does not include damage from normal wear, plating wear, or tarnishing.
We’ve listed care instructions and warranty details below, but we’re always happy to assist with any questions. If your item is damaged outside of the one-year warranty, we may still be able to repair it for a fee. Please contact us at [email protected] or message us directly here with your order number and a photo of the item.
General Care Guidelines
Remove your jewelry before any activity that may cause physical damage.
Avoid wearing your jewelry while using harsh chemicals, lotions, beauty products, or perfumes/colognes.
Remove your pieces while swimming, as chlorine and other chemicals can deteriorate jewelry.
Store jewelry in a safe, dry place when not in use. We recommend our jewelry wallets, lined with anti-tarnish microsuede fabric.
Always wipe down jewelry before storing to prevent tarnishing.
Material-Specific Care
10K & 14K Gold: Solid gold, durable, and long-lasting
Made to last a lifetime but requires gentle care.
Remove before exercising or sleeping, and store in a jewelry wallet to protect it.
Gold Vermeil: Sterling silver base with a thick layer of gold
Will naturally tarnish over time, especially when exposed to air, moisture, or sulfur-containing materials.
Easily restore shine by wiping with a soft, dry cloth or a polishing cloth.
Store in a safe, dry place, such as our jewelry wallets.
Gold-Filled: Thick layer of gold mechanically bonded to a base metal
More durable than gold plating but will eventually wear with heavy use.
Wipe clean regularly and store safely to maintain its shine.
Gold-Plated: Thin layer of gold applied over sterling silver or base metal (such as brass)
Gold plating will naturally wear over time.
Our plated pieces, aside from gold vermeil and gold-filled pieces, are made with 14k gold over brass.
Proper care helps prolong the plating: remove before bed, showering, or washing hands; avoid lotions and friction; and store in a safe, dry place.
Sterling Silver: High-quality (925) silver
Proactive maintenance is the best way to prolong the lifespan of sterling silver.
Clean by wiping with a soft, dry cloth. For tarnish, gently buff with a silver polishing cloth.
Permanent (Spark Studio) & Fine Jewelry
Our Spark collection features custom-sized chains welded closed for seamless, long-term wear. Unlike traditional jewelry, Spark pieces are designed to stay on without daily removal, which means they require thoughtful care.
Avoid chlorinated water: Chlorine can corrode the alloys in your gold jewelry.
Avoid lotions, perfumes/colognes: Strong chemicals directly on the chain may damage the gold over time.
Cleaning: Gently wash your piece with soap and water while showering, then pat dry. If it begins to darken, polish with a soft cloth.
Swimming precautions: If you plan to swim in a chlorinated pool or hot tub, we recommend cutting the bracelet at a convenient point (e.g., near a jump ring) for later re-welding, or opting for a clasp instead.
Re-welding: When ready, bring your piece to any of our boutiques for professional complimentary re-welding if necessary.
Please note that frequent cutting and re-welding over time may weaken the chain, so we recommend minimizing how often this is done to help maintain the integrity of your piece.
These tips will keep your Spark jewelry beautiful and wearable for years to come.
